XSi Vs 450D?

Does anyone know why Canon changes the name of their cameras depending on the countries they sell it in. It appears that the US have it (in the case of the 450D) as the XSi, Europe: 450D and bazarly in Japan the Canon EOS Kiss Digital x2?

Any ideas what is with the naming changes?

The Dell 2407WFP-HC looks good

After reading Paul’s thoughts I really want to get rid of my 24″ (lower end model) and spring for one of these - if not the 2408WFP-HC when that is released in the UK.

I’ve had some time to play with it but so far I love the ability to rotate vertically and easily switch between 5 inputs. I tried hooking up my Vudu box via Component cables but the picture was actually fuzzy so I’ll get an HDMI -> DVI converter and give it another go. Oh and it has Picture-In-Picture and Picture-By-Picture for any 2 of the 5 inputs.

Sponsor Shout Out: Embraceware

Picture 1.png

You may have noticed something new pop up along the sidebar of my site in the last couple of weeks and I haven’t had a chance to write a post talking about it (luckily, Daniel, reminded me :-) ). Thanks to, Jerry, from Embraceware I officially have a sponsor for the blog!

Jerry develops Awaken - the best alarm clock program for the Mac; which you may have seen recently in this year’s Macheist Bundle.

All I can say about Awaken is that it has made getting up a joy, something that I can’t say I ever imagined it would ever be.

If you can’t take my word, for it maybe these will make you:

“I went from a person who hated getting out of bed to someone who couldn’t wait to hear my iTunes music play in the morning when my iMac woke me - so much better than having a family member open the curtains and shout get up!”

- Glenn Wolsey

Without Awaken, I would have been fired long ago.”

- Matthew Kelling

“A wonderfully elegant, simple to use, yet highly sophisticated program! Thanks a million!”

- Ryan Patrico

Once again, thank-you Jerry for sponsoring the site!

If anybody else would like to advertise on the site then please do not hesitate to contact me.

A Warning if you’re uninstalling a Boot Camp Partition

A Warning if you’re uninstalling a Boot Camp Partition.

I found out recently, from when I first installed Windows a few months ago that I did it the incorrect way. I, foolishly just deleted the partition from the desktop - instead of using the Boot Camp Assistant. The ramifications of this was that when I came around to installing Vista last weekend; it couldn’t because it needed a full Mac OS Extended Journaled which just deleting the partition didn’t do.

However there was a silver lining; I got to try out the Time Machine restore - but for more you’ll have to wait for a new aside :-)

Five good reasons why you shouldn’t buy the extra iPod Touch apps:

Five good reasons why you shouldn’t buy the extra iPod Touch apps:

Other companies are giving such things for free. I can’t really think of others at the moment, but I specifically recall Microsoft allowing users to upgrade their old Zune software to the new. Granted you did not get any new “apps”, but you got added functionality. That’s all these apps are, added functions.

Some I agree with, some I don’t. I think it is not fair to compare Microsoft’s offering of the Zune software, that was a totally new hardware revision while this is an optional update. But I think the main reason they charged for it is because they had too - for their account records.

Who needs to be on TV when you can be on a plane?

Who needs to be on TV when you can be on a plane?

The Revision3 shows will be viewable on Virgin America’s seat-back entertainment system throughout the cabin on flights to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, San Diego and Seattle.

Revision3 obviously has a good relationship with VA - I wonder if this is just the beginning of internet content given to an audience outside the internet? If so we could start seeing a whole new breed of web shows, designed purely for when you are sitting on the plane. I would ask though, how often the shows are updated which might not be so helpful if the news programs (such as Diggnation) become outdated.

A Great Suggestion for Coding

Michael got a great email suggesting how to get into coding.

If I were starting from scratch today, I’d learn Python. It’s clean, and it’s easy to run (open Terminal.app: Type “python”). Once you’ve learned HTML, you can get started with building a Python site using Django, TurboGears, Plone, etc. With Python, you can do incredibly useful stuff like creating the world’s longest palindrome :P. Python and other high level languages are just gateways to other languages.

I was planning on looking at CSS; but maybe I should be looking at Python…

SJ Says People Don’t Read Books

SJ says people don’t read books

Yet, when Mr. Jobs was asked two weeks ago at the Macworld Expo what he thought of the Kindle, he heaped scorn on the book industry. “It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is; the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year.”

You know, after getting into podcasts I have to agree, I just don’t have time to do both - I wish I did though.
