I have been using event box for the past few days and I have to say I totally agree with your assessment. I love the concept but it's slow and I am not into all the stuff that happens when you open it. I love the concept and I hope eventbox either gets better or we get some competition. I would love to see an online solution to something like this.

Breakfast mode sounds especially useful. I would love to see that implemented in future versions.

Hi Milen,

Thanks for the response to my post. I can't wait to see some of the advancements you're making, I look forward to downloading it soon. :-)

Hi,

I'm one of the devs of EventBox, let me try and quickly address your points.
Information Overload - we have not yet thought about something like this due to having other more important features that need to be implemented.
Layout - our visual engine supports grouping items and switching different representations at runtime. We were planning to turn on group mode for Feeds / RSS and also provide an alternative condensed mode. We even have the mocks around. The reason that hasn't shipped yet? Time. We also have a "grid" view for photos which is, again, unfinished and the reason for not shipping.

Under the hood - we have support for smart folders under the hood (this what actually the unread and recent containers are), we just haven't exposed the ability to create your own smart folders. Reason? Time.

In a nutshell, we're hearing you and we understand your concerns. All we ask for is a little bit of time so that we can expose the power of EventBox in the interface. Rest assured, all your points will be addressed. To give you an example, Google Reader and the HUD are being worked on as we speak.
